It’s no secret that this decade got off to a rough start! It seems as if we never had a chance to catch our breaths and focus on our new year's resolutions. However, the new year brings a chance to start fresh, and I am making 2021 the year of bettering myself and the planet! I’ve already started implementing some green alternatives in my life; I’ve even put together a list of my favorites!

Reusable Produce Bag

If you crochet, you’ll love this- it is my current obsession! As someone with way too much yarn and way too much time, I have been making these nonstop. This pattern is extremely easy, so it’s perfect even if you don’t have much experience crocheting. It’s a great project for a beginner looking to take up a new hobby or an experienced crocheter looking for a simple project as long as you enjoy having an idle hobby to do while watching Netflix. The best part about these is that it can be finished in less than an hour, giving you that instant gratification of making something of your own, and they’re the perfect sustainable alternative so you don’t feel like you’re wasting all those plastic bags in the produce section.

Reusable Cotton Rounds

I love my skincare routine, but I’ve always hated how many cotton rounds I go through each month so this tutorial was perfect for me! Not only is it a great way to make your skincare routine a little more green, it’s also the perfect way to get the most out of your fabric scraps or old shirts. Since these are only 3” across, a little spare of fabric can go a long way! And don’t get discouraged if these don’t come out perfect; they don’t need to be beautiful to be effective.

Recycled Paper

This one I haven’t gotten to do yet (after all, it’s only January!), but it is at the top of my to-do list and something I’m so excited to try out. For months, my TikTok feed has been filled with people making their own recycled paper, and I can officially say I’m convinced! Paper is something I go through so fast, so recycling it to make more rather than just buy more is exactly what I need.

I hope you have a super sustainable and creative new year with these tutorials! I just know this year will be better, especially if we all take the time to better ourselves and the world around us!
