8 Ways to Bundle Up in Style This Winter

8 Ways to Bundle Up in Style This Winter

With Halloween officially coming to an end, it’s time to put up the lights and play your favorite Christmas songs. The winter atmosphere is unlike any other season. From exchanging gifts to baking cookies, what’s not to love about the holiday spirit? Personally, my favorite part is bundling up in my comfiest outfits by the fireplace, watching cheesy Hallmark movies.

However, no matter how cold it is or how much snow is on the ground, family and friends will always make time to get together. Whether it’s attending a holiday party or driving into the city for Christmas shopping, those outings force us to exchange the sweatpants and chunky sweaters for something a little more dressed up.

Winter styling is all about layers, patterns, and making sure you stay warm while looking fashionable. That’s why I’m sharing my eight best tips to bundle up head-to-toe in the most stylish way possible!

1. Double-Layered Tights

Sheer tights are a holiday party staple because they let you wear a mini skirt or dress without completely freezing. But let’s be honest: one layer of sheer black tights definitely did not cut it on Christmas Eve last year. Instead of suffering through shivering legs, try layering fleece-lined nude tights underneath your sheer tights. This creates the visual illusion of bare skin while keeping you comfortably insulated.

2. Don't Sleep on the Crop

A couple of years ago, I picked up a cropped puffer vest. Even when it’s 25º outside, I still reach for it as my go-to layering piece. The word “cropped” scares a lot of people during the winter, but worn over thick, insulated long-sleeve tops with high-waisted denim, a cropped vest adds dynamic contrast without compromising on core warmth.

3. The Grand Entrance

Now, we’re flipping the silhouette on its head. Pairing a floor-length, heavy wool coat with a sleek body-con mini dress is the ultimate move for holiday events. You stay completely bundled up and safe from the wind on your way to the venue, and the moment you drop off your coat, you have a polished, head-turning look underneath.

4. Cinch Before You Shiver

Baggy layers are cozy, but they tend to bury your favorite accessories and swallow your shape. Fastening a wide leather belt over an oversized blazer or chunky knit coat immediately brings back your waistline. It lets you showcase a statement accessory while preventing heavy winter fabrics from overwhelming your frame.

5. The Boot & Sock Combo

Boots are easily the best part of cold-weather fashion because they transition effortlessly between denim, skirts, and dresses. To instantly elevate your footwear, pull on a pair of textured or ruffled boot socks that peek just above the rim. If you aren't a fan of tights, pairing leather or suede knee-high boots with cozy tall socks gives you full coverage, extra warmth, and textural depth.

6. Let Texture Do the Heavy Lifting

Elevating a basic outfit doesn't require a total wardrobe overhaul. Just swap flat fabrics for dimensional ones. Instead of plain black tights, choose pairs accented with polka dots, lace, or subtle rhinestones. The same applies to cable-knit details, buckled boots, or coats with a couple of extra buttons. These textural accents take a simple monochromatic base and make it look curated and high-effort.

7. Save the Blowout

The absolute worst part of winter prep is spending an hour on a blowout only to step outside and let the wind and damp air undo your hard work. Even standard beanies can leave you with severe hat-hair once removed. Instead, swap traditional hats for patterned headbands or silk-lined, faux-fur wraps. They protect your hairstyle, keep your head warm, and seamlessly integrate into your indoor look so you never have to take them off.

8. Drape and Tie

Scarves are having a major moment as an accessory and added layering. We’re moving away from the chunky infinity wraps of the past, and opting for silk, velvet, and cashmere scarves that add rich color and drape to any outfit. You can sweep them over one shoulder for effortless elegance or tie them loosely at the waist to add warmth without disrupting your top’s neckline.

Equipped with these new cold-weather styling tricks, you never have to choose between freezing for the look or hiding under a blanket. With the right layers, textures, and clever tricks up your sleeve, stepping out into the snow will feel just as effortless (and cozy) as relaxing by the fireplace, watching your favorite holiday movies.
